First Blush: Oh, there really is a sun

sunrise over Lake Lagunita

The female Dawn Jogger saw the sun rise this morning. That it rose is not the point. That she could see the sun after more than week of gray skies is. More rain is supposedly on the way Christmas Day. Oh well, too busy to dwell on it…

First Blush: Pretty winter day on the Dish

The female Dawn Jogger has mainly dodged the rain during the most recent storms and did so again this morning. She could see a veil of mist coming in from the West but did the washboard Dish run without a drop. She marvels at how mild it is this December – another morning out with just a shirt on, no jacket or gloves. Later in the morning she went with Scott to the largest private military vehicle collection in the world. That tale will be told on InMenlo…

First Blush: Duck mating dance begun

Now that there’s plenty of water in San Francisquito Creek – but it’s no longer rushing rapids like – a growing group of ducks has taken up residence. What the female Dawn Jogger saw this morning was a small army of males all jockeying for the interest of one female. Once they’ve paired off for mating season, there always seems to be a few guys left over. The male DJ used to call those groups “bachelor pads”…

First Blush: Pretty almost winter run

It’s not officially winter, so this morning’s outing wasn’t a real winter run. But the big storm that blew through the Bay Area over the weekend makes it seem wintry. There was debris all over the Stanford golf course and on the Big Dish pathways. Temps remain temperate, although it was actually warmer when the female Dawn Jogger set off just prior to dawn than it was when she returned home. Her favorite oak was framed nicely against the gray skies…

Snowflakes and drummer boys – oh so cute!

Last night, the female Dawn Jogger went to the East Bay to attend Grace’s preschool Christmas party with her parents. The minute we arrived, Grace was whisked behind closed doors. We were told they’d all be getting into their costumes and doing some last minute rehearsing.

The gathered group of adoring parents and grandparents were treated to a sing-a-long featuring little drummer boys and snow flakes (“On your toes, girls,” Ms. Irene encouraged the performers.”) Need we mention how cute they all looked and how earnestly they sang…

First Blush: Christmas bush spotted on Dish run

The female Dawn Jogger wasn’t the only one up and out relatively early on the Dish this morning. Others had the same idea – get going between the rain storms. The temperature was just shy of 60, making for a bit of a sultry run. Along the bottom road that parallels Juniper Serra, she spotted a festive looking Christmas bush sporting red berries. She fears the rain won’t hold off for her trek to the East Bay tonight to take part in Grace’s preschool party/performance. Oh well…

Midday walk in the rain

No First Blush for the female Dawn Jogger this morning. While it wasn’t raining hard, rain plus pitch dark are not inviting. So she caught up around the house, did a quick errand run to downtown Menlo, and then donned full rain gear for a midday walk. Her destination was Tootsie’s, an Italian cafe a friend had told her about in the old Stanford barn. It was packed and, with the outdoor seating eliminated, she had to order her tuna salad to go – it was worth waiting for when she arrived back home. On the way back, she did a creek check. Far from rushing but more rain to come…
