First Blush: Oh, there really is a sun

sunrise over Lake Lagunita

The female Dawn Jogger saw the sun rise this morning. That it rose is not the point. That she could see the sun after more than week of gray skies is. More rain is supposedly on the way Christmas Day. Oh well, too busy to dwell on it…

First Blush: Dodging rain drops

Rain on the bathroom skylight woke the female Dawn Jogger this morning. It was far from a pelting rain and she knew she’d have to gear up and get out. But by the time she dressed, it had stopped. That made for pretty pink clouds over Lake Lagunita. Another busy day ahead. Taking Grace to see Santa…

First Blush: Some days are for the birds

Egret near Lake LagunitaMaybe the female Dawn Jogger should have known it was going to be a day for the birds when she posted the flamingo story on InMenlo. No sooner had she descended into the tule fog that enveloped Lake Lagunita this morning than she was joined by an egret, who took up residence where the main drain pipe empties water from the Stanford land above. It eyed the female DJ warily but managed to hold its ground and pose. Guess that’s why they’re called posers…

First Blush: Payoff dawn sky

This was a morning that showed why it pays to jog a dawn. The clouds – possible precursor to same rain showers – were dazzling pink. Pink remained for much our her outing…

First Blush: Undelivered color show

When the female Dawn Jogger got up and saw all the clouds in the sky, she had high hopes of a brilliant sunrise this morning. The summer’s many days of overcast and the more recent hot, cloudless sky don’t produce a vivid dawn display. While the clouds were pretty and the changing colors lovely to observe, the pay off punch of brilliance never really came this morning. Nice neverthless…

First Blush: Heat wave gives way

Lake Lagunita pre-dawn, Sept. 2010

The female Dawn Jogger learned years ago how you knew a heat was over on the mid-Peninsula of the San Francisco Bay Area – the fog descends over the western hills. Or most subtly, ground fog hovers over a dry lake bed. It was the latter this morning…

First Blush: Working out with the X country team

Stanford X country athletes post training runThere are usually few souls around when the female Dawn Jogger does her Tues/Thurs run-around-the-lake route. But this morning she saw cyclists pedaling to the area near the practice golf course and found herself joined by a horde of Stanford cross country runners. She could say she worked out with elite runner this morning. Or more accurately, she could say she felt the breeze as they sped by…
