First Blush: Lake, what lake?
From her hotel room on the 43rd floor, the female DJ has two great lake views – looking north at Lake Michigan. Distance wise she’s just a couple of blocks away. All this leading up to the fact that she can hardly see the building next door, and the lake is all but invisible due to heavy – well, as a west coaster would call it – fog. She headed out nevertheless, going south on the lake path for the first time, past Navy Pier, turning around at the Chicago Yacht Club where preparations were under way for a regatta of some kind. Along the way she snapped two swimmers who’d paused for a chat mid-lake. Note the wetsuits – the water is really cold. Weather wise, the excitement is just beginning; a severe weather alert has been issued with a big thunderstorm headed towards downtown. Not exactly a nice day for a wedding, but there’s hope for the late afternoon…

First Blush: Along the lake after overnight showers
The female DJ got out early enough this morning to avoid what is slated to be a very hot and humid day – and to see the sun break through the clouds that brought rain showers overnight. Like popular jogging/walking/biking trails worldwide, people watching is half the fun of the outing. Today, the prize went to the man jogging with a German Shepherd and a Chihuahua. All lakefront activity is tranquil in a city that has erupted with sports fever: the Blackhawks parade is in the Loop this morning and the White Sox play the Cubs at Wrigley later today. It will make for a even drunker than usual city…

First Blush: Jog along Lake Michigan
The female DJ’s friend Cindy, who lives in a Chicago suburb, was quick to point out that they need to enjoy the near perfect weather – mid-70s and low humidity – while it lasts.
